Ideye was a late replacement for knee-injury victim Jon Obi Mikel in coach Lars Lagerback's squad.
The tall striker played for Bayelsa United in his native land for four years before joining Nigerian champions Ocean Boys, where he failed to get much time on the pitch.
But that did not prevent him being snapped up as a teenager by Swiss side Neuchatel Xamax in 2008.
Ideye scored 23 goals in just 55 appearances in just two seasons before he left for the French League to join Sochaux.
In his first season in eastern France, he played 20 matches and scored five goals.
His first taste of international football came in 2007 when he represented Nigeria in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada scoring his first goal in the match with Costa Rica.
He stepped up to Under-23 level the following year but never featured for the senior side until he made Lagerback's original 30-man World Cup squad back in May.
He was then one of the unlucky seven players to be dropped from the Super Eagles squad when it was trimmed to 23 but has got a reprieve with Mkel's injury.
